Christina Cisneros, VLSC Volunteer of the Year – Rising Star

The Volunteer Legal Services Corporation (VLSC) is proud to honor Christina Cisneros with our annual Volunteer of the Year – Rising Star award. Christina participated in VLSC’s Annual Family Law training in 2014 and has been consistently volunteering with us ever since. She volunteers for the Family Law Day of Court (FLDOC) program on an almost weekly basis, if she’s not also volunteering at another one of our Family Law and Guardianship Clinics. Christina got her start in family law through VLSC clinics, and is one of our most active volunteers!

Christina was born in San Pablo, California, and was raised in Richmond, California. She graduated from Richmond High School, received her B.A. from UC Berkeley and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

Help us celebrate the work of Christina and the rest of our award recipients on May 5th at Justice for All: Celebrating Pro Bono!

We caught up with Christina and asked her about her volunteering.

Why do you volunteer with VLSC?

I volunteer for VLSC because it is a good fit for me. I believe in the social teachings of my faith which calls its members to serve the poor. Also, I am one of nine children. FLDOC reminds me of my childhood when life was very often busy, unpredictable, chore-driven and fun.

What is one thing that you wished our people knew about VLSC?

VLSC exemplifies the best in our society.  It is an organization where the volunteers can share their compassion, time and talents to serve those in need. The work is truly rewarding.
